What Does She Do?
Kristyn Harris, 19, of Collin County Texas, is the winner of the 2013 Cowboy Swing Album of the Year and the 2012 Crescendo Award from the Western Music Association. Her heart lies in cowboy and western swing music, inspired by her ranch life as well as music of classic and contemporary western icons. Kristyn is noted for her singing, songwriting, swing rhythm guitar style, big bass thumping, and yodeling (named the WMA Female Yodeler of the Year in 2012).
Along with her passion for playing western music, Kristyn is a horseperson to the core, which her music reflects. By age 12 she became an active member of her County 4H club, eventually garnering the 4H National Championship for Hippology (the study of horses) with her team in 2011. Kristyn found her love of training when she adopted a wild mustang filly that she successfully gentled and brought under saddle. Since then she has adopted a second mustang and competed in the 2012 Supreme Extreme Mustang Makeover, as well as training horses for other people. She continues to draw inspiration for her music from her horses.
Kristyn was the winner of the Rising Star Competition at the 2011 Kamloops Cowboy Festival in British Columbia, was a 2013 Top Five Finalist for the WMA Female Performer of the Year, as well as a Top Five Finalist for Academy of Western Artists Female Performer of the Year in 2012. She has performed on national television as part of RFD-TV’s “The Penny Gilley Show”, “The Shotgun Red Variety Show”, and on Nickelodeon’s popular game show, “Figure It Out”. She also appears at venues local and across the United States and Canada. Kristyn's love and enjoyment of the music she performs is contagious. She brings to the stage a warm, genuine, and energetic personality, and never fails to gallop right into the hearts of her audiences!
